Uncle Charlie likes his wine light, with a nice balance of earth and fruit. Not to mention low in alcohol so it goes down easy in the hot afternoon sun on the terrace.
I drank Uncle Charlie's wine over the last couple days and really enjoyed it. At 12.5% alcohol, it's the perfect everyday red for warmer days. A classic Bordeaux blend, it's 60% Cabernet, 40% Merlot. However, the grapes are grown and the wine is produced in southern France, between Montpelier and the Mediterranean. The wine is bottled at the famous Chateau Flaugergues.
It has a medium ruby color, and a pungent nose of red fruits and spice. In the mouth it's medium bodied (due to the lower alcohol) and you taste fresh, juicy red fruit along with a delicate earthiness. Once the wine opens up for a bit, some nice grape tannin comes through and leaves you with a positive pucker and wanting another sip.

The wine is aged in steel, so again it's not heavy and if I was blind tasting it I would guess it was from Bordeaux...probably in the $13 - $16 range. It went great with some green leaf lettuce from the garden with lime and oil dressing, a can of tuna and fresh ground pepper on top. Simple fare for a simple, yet very pleasing wine.
I'm often reminded by customers about how great (and cheap) the wine is Italy, Spain and France and for some reason it just tastes better when we are there. Uncle Charlie's wine reminds me of those simple table wines you get when abroad. Uncle Charlie's wine is like those wines that leave a lasting impression because they fit the moment, pair well with all sorts of food, and are easy on palate and on the wallet.
